The session is led by Kumi, a native of Japan based in Hong Kong since 1990. As a professional percussionist and drum tutor, Kumi is a Remo* endorser and international drum circle facilitator. She has studied under pioneering world drum facilitator, Arthur Hull and music therapist, Christine Stevens and makes regular trips to Africa where she is a student of many drum masters.
With a passion for making people happy through rhythm, Kumi has been leading drum circles for over 10 years. As a percussionist she has a strong connection with music, and recognizes the extraordinary power of the drum as a healing, unifying and motivating tool, which can benefit many people from young to old, with special needs and the elderly.
As a professional performer and musical director, Kumi uses her musical prowess to transform the simple rhythmic harmonies created by people who have never touched a musical instrument before, into an invigorating, sweet sounding composition. She builds on the small successes, showcases the strengths of individuals, and empowers the group to take full control of their musical journey.
